The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for direct client support with individuals experiencing homelessness. This hands-on role helps to support the homeless community during days marked under the code blue alert. A “Code Blue” alert is issued when the forecasted temperature in Lackawanna County (including wind chills) is expected to reach 20 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. Coordinators are responsible for maintaining and regulating the shelter facility as well as ensuring a safe and healthy environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

· Effective written, verbal, interpersonal communication and computer skills

· Valid PA driver’s license

· Ability to work overnight shifts regularly

· Agreement with the philosophy of the Keystone Mission

· Positive attitude

· 1 or more years of experience working with at risk communities preferred

Shelter coordinators are generally part-time positions that work a variety of overnight and evening shifts. Overnight availability is required. Keystone Mission is an Equal Opportunity Employer

Duties and Tasks:

  • Complete intake process for individuals that are new
  • Meets weekly with Program Manager
  • Adheres to Keystone Mission Policy and Procedures
  • Communicate information regarding available workshops and services to guests
  • Distribute donations
  • Must be able to lift upwards of 20 lbs.
  • Intervene and appropriately de-escalate crisis situations
  • Ensure all services are confidential
