In preparation for the onset of winter weather, Keystone Mission has announced that they will once again work with the City of Scranton, to facilitate a Code Blue, emergency shelter. The shelter, located at Weston Field House, at 982 Providence Rd in Scranton, will serve the needs of people who are homeless and might otherwise remain unsheltered during periods of extreme winter weather. The shelter will activate when the forecast includes temperatures of 20 degrees or lower and/or a snowfall prediction of 12” or more or at the discretion of the shelter executive staff. The hours, during activation, will be 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM. The shelter will offer showers and a warm cot to sleep in during the night; while also, connecting the guests with an individual who cares deeply about their well-being.
On the subject of the Code Blue Shelter, Justin Behrens, Executive Director & CEO of Keystone Mission, added, “The Code Blue Shelter falls in line with the mission of Keystone Mission in building long-term success, rather than short-term relief. The shelter coordinator will build intentional relationships with guests; listen to their stories; and, introduce them to one of the Mission’s Life Coaches, who will collaborate with other organizations to seek community support that will aid in life transformation”.
